Vosmerik

Vos’merik

in Russian and Ukrainian architecture, an octagonal structure or part of one. It was used mainly in church buildings, both wooden (the church in the village of Panilovo, Arkhangelsk Oblast, 1600) and stone (the church in the village of Gorodnia, Moscow Oblast, second half of the 16th century; St. IFia Church in Podol, Kiev, 1692). A vos’merik was often placed on a quadrangular foundation (the so-called vos’merik na chetverike) and sometimes on a cruciform foundation.
