[prī′är·əd·ē ′int·ə‚rəpt] (computer science) An interrupt procedure in which control is passed to the monitor, the required operation is initiated, and then control returns to the running program, which never knows that it has been interrupted.

priority interrupt

(jargon)Any stimulus compelling enough to yank one right outof hack mode. Classically used to describe being draggedaway by an SO for immediate sex, but may also refer to moremundane interruptions such as a fire alarm going off in thenear vicinity. Also called an NMI (non-maskable interrupt),especially in PC-land.
