Vorotan

a river in Armenian SSR and Azerbaijan SSR (where it is called Bargiushad), left branch of the Araks. Originates on the Karabakh Highland. Length, 178 km; basin area, 5,650 sq km. The Vorotan is a mountain river, which in some sections flows in deep canyon-like gorges. It is fed mainly by snows and underground water. Hydroelectric power plants are being built on the river.
