Peloritani
Peloritani
a mountain massif in Italy, in northeastern Sicily. There are elevations to 1,374 m. The mountains, which are composed primarily of gneisses and crystalline schists, are an extension of the Southern Apennines. The steep slopes are strongly dissected by river canyons. The region is very seismic and is bordered on the southwest by the Etna volcano. The slopes are covered with Mediterranean shrubbery and forests.
