Pelletized Feeds
Pelletized Feeds
ground fodder mixtures (combined fodders and ground silage) formed into solid pieces or pellets. The pellets may be round, cylindrical, or cubic. Pelletized feeds are better than ground feed in that they preserve nourishing substances and vitamins, do not cake or freeze, are suitable for mechanical transportation and distribution, and are rapidly eaten and assimilated by animals.
Feeds are pelletized by granulators. They can be used for all types of animals. Pellet diameters vary: for young domestic agricultural fowl aged 1–7 days, 1–2 mm; aged 7–30 days, 2.2 mm; for mature birds, 5 mm; for weaned piglets, 8.0 mm; for mature pigs, 10.0 mm; and for cattle, 16–20 mm. Pelletized feeds are stored in grain silos and storehouses.
