Serveti Fünun
(A Wealth of Knowledge), a Turkish journal published in Istanbul from 1891 to 1944. From 1896 to 1901 the editor in chief was the poet Tevfik Fikret. Well-known Turkish writers contributing to Serveti Fünun included Cenap Şahabettin, Celâl Sahir, and Hüseyin Suat; a new type of literature called Serveti Fünun literature took form. The journal’s editorship was pro-Western and in many respects adhered to European philosophic and social thought. The journal’s writers strongly criticized Turkey’s moral and social ills. The journal played an important role in the nation’s literary and public life.
