Peichiang

Peichiang

a river in southern China, the left branch of the Hsichiang River. It is 468 km long and the area of its basin is 45,900 sq km. It originates in mountains of average elevation and in its lower reaches flows along a hilly plain. There are flash floods during summer monsoon rains. The Peichiang is navigable in its lower reaches, but navigation entails great difficulties owing to the abundance of shoals. In places the channel is bordered by dams to prevent flooding.
