Summi Pontificatus

Summi Pontificatus

An encyclical letter written by Pope Pius XII in 1939. In it, he criticizes the notion that law should not necessarily conform to God's will. He blames this for class war and racism, as well as for the idea that the state is supreme over individual notions of right and wrong. Written in the context of the outbreak of World War II, it was a call for all people to cooperate for the common good.
