Size: 16,003 acres.
Established: Chopawamsic Recreation Demonstration Area transferred from Resettlement Administration on November 14, 1936; changed to Prince William Forest Park on June 22, 1948.
Location:In northeast Virginia, 32 miles south of Washington, DC, and 22 miles north of Fredericksburg. From I-95, take Exit 150.
Facilities:Campgrounds, picnic area, rest rooms (é), cabin rental, bicycle trail, visitor center (é), museum/exhibit, hiking trail, playing fields. Entrance fee required.
Activities:Camping, hiking, bicycling, fishing, wildlife viewing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, interpretive programs.
Special Features:Prince William is the greatest expanse of a Piedmont forest in the National Park System and the largest natural park in the metropolitan Washington area. It includes a major portion of the Quantico Creek watershed.
