(sĕ-rā't'ŭs pos-tēr'ē-ŏr sŭ-pēr'ē-ŏr mŭs'ĕl) Upper intermediate muscle of back; origin, from spinous processes of two lower cervical and two upper thoracic vertebrae; insertion, into lateral side of angles of second-fifth ribs; nerve supply, first-fourth intercostals.
