Pedigree Animal

a purebred or nearly pureblood crossbreed used to obtain offspring for subsequent breeding. A pedigree animal is almost certain to transmit its best qualities to its offspring. The most valuable pedigree animals have in their genealogy a fairly large number of ancestors with outstanding productivity and breeding qualities. The best animals are raised at special pedigree farms. Pedigree animals are used to improve their breed and the qualities of herds.
