1918–98, American choreographer and dancer, b. New York City as Jerome Wilson Rabinowitz. Robbins began his career dancing in musicals (1937). In 1940 he joined the Ballet Theatre and in 1948 became associate artistic director of the New York City Ballet.

Among the works Peck has choreographed for City Ballet are Year of the Rabbit (2012), Paz de la Jolla (2013), based on California's beach culture and the subject of the documentary Ballet 422, Everywhere We Go (2014), Rodeo: Four Dance Episodes (2015), and New Blood (2015). Peck created Debonair (2014) for Pacific Northwest Ballet and Heatscape (2015) for Miami City Ballet. In 2016 City Ballet premiered his first narrative piece, The Most Incredible Thing, drawn from a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. Peck's choreography is known especially for its outstanding ensemble work, seamlessly moving groups in and out of complex geometric patterns with speed and exuberance.
