Sullivanesque style

Sullivanesque style

(1890–1920)A style named after Louis Henry Sullivan, noted for his stylized ornamentation and simple multistory forms, designed as uninterrupted elements to express height, much the same as fluting in Classical columns. The windows were separated by ornamental terra-cotta panels, and the massive decorative cornice resembled the capital. An intricate weaving of linear forms with stylized foliage was highlighted in the cornice with low-relief ornamentation in terra-cotta.
