Peat Gas

Peat Gas

a product of the carbonization of peat. The composition of peat gas depends on the moisture content of the peat used: C02 (8.3–9.4 percent by volume), CmH, (0.4 percent), 02(0.1–0.2 percent), CO (25–27 percent), H2 (16–17 percent), CH4(2.3–3.0 percent), and N2 (44.5–45.5 percent). The heat of combustion is 1,450–1,550 Calories per m3 (6.15–6.5 megajoules per m3). The production of peat gas in the USSR is declining as a result of the increased production of natural gas.
