Peat Coke
Peat Coke
a solid product of the thermal processing of peat. Peat coke may be produced by low-temperature coking, semicok-ing at a final temperature of 550°–600°C, medium-temperature coking at 700°–750°C, or coking at 900°–1100°C. High-quality peat with a low ash content is used as the raw material, and continuous furnaces with internal or external heating are used for processing. Peat coke has a high reactivity and a low sulfur and phosphorus content. It is used in the manufacture of sorbents, ferroalloys, and other products. In the USSR peat coke is also used as raw material for the manufacture of activated charcoal.
