(ro͞o`dôlshtät'), city (1994 pop. 29,536), Thuringia, E central Germany, on the Thuringian Saale River. Manufactures include china, chemicals, and metal goods. It is also a tourist resort. Founded by A.D. 800, Rudolstadt was (1574–1918) the seat of the rulers of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. The Heidecksburg Palace, rebuilt in 1735, is now a museum.Rudolstadt
