Rudder Chock

a guard at the stern of a river vessel that protects the ship’s rudder from damage during mooring, standing at berth, or passage through locks. The rudder chock is usually made of wooden beams on metal brackets above the rudder. Planking is mounted above the crosspieces of the brackets.
