Vestnik Zhizni

(Journal of Life), a journal, legal organ of the Bolshevik Party.

Vestnik zhizni was published in St. Petersburg from Mar. 30 (Apr. 12), 1906, through September 1907, at first two or three times a month; beginning with issue 9 [July 19 (Aug. 1), 1906] it appeared on a monthly basis. Twenty issues were published (13 in 1906 and seven in 1907). Its circulation was 10,000. The editorial staff included P. P. Rumiantsev and M. S. Ol’minskii. Also participating in the journal’s operation were the following: V. I. Lenin (who published two articles), V. D. Bonch-Bruevich, V. M. Velichkina (Bonch-Bruevich), V. V. Vorovskii, A. V. Lunacharskii, and I. I. Skvortsov-Stepanov. Included in Vestnik zhizni were articles on urgent political problems, philosophy, literature, and art. The journal was subjected to repressive measures by the police. Issues 5, 10, 11, and 12 for 1906 and issues 1,3, and 5 for 1907 were confiscated. Its publication was closed down by a decree of the St. Petersburg Court of Law.
