vestibulocochlear [ves-tib″u-lo-kok´le-er] pertaining to the vestibule of the ear and the cochlea.vestibulocochlear nerve the eighth cranial nerve, which emerges from the brain between the pons and medulla oblongata, behind the facial nerve. The vestibular division serves the vestibule of the ear and the semicircular canals, carrying impulses for the sense of equilibrium. The cochlear division serves the cochlea and carries impulses for the sense of hearing. Called also acoustic nerve and auditory nerve.
