Ruberoid

Ruberoid

roll-type roofing and waterproofing material made by impregnating a roofing felt with soft bitumens and then coating both surfaces with a layer of high-melting bitumen.

Ruberoid is used mainly for the top layer of the roofing membrane; the outer surface of such Ruberoid is coated with a uniform layer of coarse-grained or flaked aggregate, such as coarse sand or mica, which protects the Ruberoid from the effects of the sun’s rays and thereby increases its service life. Ruberoid is sometimes used in the bottom layers of the roofing membrane (lining Ruberoid) or for waterproofing building structures. In the USSR, Ruberoid is manufactured in rolls 750, 1,000, and 1,025 mm wide. The glass-fiber variety of Ruberoid is manufactured on a glass-fabric base.
