Vorotnikov, Sergei Illarionovich

 

Born Oct. 25, 1929, in the village of Liman, Voronezh Oblast. Miner-innovator, brigadier at the Kosior mines (in the settlement of Chernukhino, Lugansk Oblast) in the Donbas; Hero of Socialist Labor (1966). Became a member of the CPSU in 1962.

Vorotnikov organized 24-hour composite brigades and initiated competition for the increasing of work quotas for loading at the coal face (1962). Between January 1966 and September 1968, Vorotnikov’s brigade mined 1 million tons of coal. The productivity of the workers’ brigade of the working face was twice that of the average indexes of the basin. At the Twenty-third Congress of the CPSU (1966), Vorotnikov was elected a candidate of the Central Committee of the CPSU. He is a member of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR (1967). He has been awarded the Order of Lenin and medals.
