Sergei Iakovlevich Alliluev

Born Sept. 24 (Oct. 7), 1866; died July 27, 1945. Russian revolutionary. Member of the Communist Party as of 1896. Born in the village of Ramoni of the Novokhopersk District in Voronezh Province, into a peasant family.

Beginning in 1890, Alliluev worked as a mechanic and assistant locomotive driver in Tiflis. Before 1907 he led active revolutionary operations in Tiflis, Baku, Moscow, and Rostov-on-Don. He was arrested seven times and twice exiled. He worked in Petersburg in the years from 1907 to 1918. In 1912–17 his apartment was a permanent conspiratorial headquarters of the Bolsheviks. During the February Revolution of 1917, he was a member of the plant committee of the Obshchestvo 1886 electric power plant. V. I. Lenin hid in his apartment after the July days of 1917. Alliluev was an active participant in the October Revolution in Petrograd. During the Civil War he did underground work in the Ukraine and in the Crimea. In 1921 he was a member of the Yalta Revolutionary Committee and then held high managerial posts in Moscow, Leningrad, and the Ukraine.
