Sergei Bibikov

Bibikov, Sergei Nikolaevich

 

Born Sept. 1 (14), 1908, in Sevastopol’. Soviet archaeologist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1958). Member of the CPSU since 1940.

Bibikov’s major works are devoted to the Paleolithic, Neolithic, and early metal periods in Eastern Europe. His most important excavations were in the Crimean caves of the Mesolithic period, in the Ural caves of the Upper Paleolithic period, and of Luka-Vrublevetskaia on the Dnestr River, an early settlement of the Tripol’e culture.
