Serdobsk
a city under oblast jurisdiction and administrative center of Serdobsk Raion, Penza Oblast, RSFSR; located on the Serdoba River of the Don River basin. Railroad station 111 km southwest of the city of Penza. Population, 38,100 (1975).
Serdobsk is noted for machine building, including the production of dump trailers for motor vehicles and the production of driving mechanisms. It has a plant for the production of electric lamps and bulbs and a clock factory, which produces table and wall clocks and mechanical toys. Other plants in the city produce carts, building components, and bricks. Serdobsk has an evening machine-building technicum and a zootechnical technicum. It also has a museum of local lore. Serdobsk has been a city since 1780, when the village of Boi’shaia Serdoba was elevated to city status.
