In southeastern TN, northwest of Chattanooga; organized Dec 9, 1857 from Hamilton County (and previously from Bledsoe, Marion, and Grundy counties). Name Origin: For the Sequatchie River, which runs through it; name is Cherokee, probably for 'hog river.'
