Pchevzha

 

a river in Novgorod and Leningrad oblasts, RSFSR, a right tributary of the Volkhov. It is 157 km long and drains an area of 1,970 sq km. The river is fed primarily by snow. High water is in April and May, and there are flash floods in the autumn. The mean flow rate 44 km from the mouth is 12.2 cu m per sec. The Pchevzha freezes in November or December, and the ice breaks up in April. It is navigable for 30 km from the mouth. A hydroelectric power plant is located on the Pchevzha.
