Presno Albarrán, José Antonio

 

Born July 3, 1916, in Havana. Cuban surgeon.

In 1940, Presno graduated from the medical department of the University of Havana. In 1952 he became a professor of clinical surgery at the university. In addition, he was made chief surgeon of the Ministry of Public Health of the Republic of Cuba in 1964 and chief surgeon of the Military Medical Service of the Revolutionary Armed Forces in 1966. Presno’s principal works are on the surgery of the gastrointestinal tract. A number of his works are also devoted to surgical shock, surgical techniques, the history of medicine, and deontology. He became a foreign member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR in 1966. He became a member of the Cuban Society of Surgeons in 1946 (in 1966, honorary member) and the Cuban Society of the History of Medicine in 1974.
