(yū'ni-vĕr'săl den'tăl nō'mĕn-klā-chŭr) 1. A North American system of identifying teeth by assigning a sequential number to each permanent tooth beginning with the upper right third molar (1) and continuing to the upper left third molar (16), then continuing in the lower arch and finishing with the lower right third molar (32). 2. A system for deciduous teeth analogous to the permanent one using letters (A through T).
