Tiazhel’nikov, Evgenii Mikhailovich
Born Jan. 7, 1928, in the village of Verkhniaia Sanarka, Plast Raion, Cheliabinsk Oblast. Soviet state, Komsomol, and party figure. Candidate of historical sciences (1960); docent (1962). Member of the Komsomol since 1943. Member of the CPSU since 1951.
The son of a peasant, Tiazhel’nikov graduated in 1950 from the Cheliabinsk State Pedagogical Institute, where he was an assistant in the department of Marxism-Leninism from 1950 to 1952; at the same time, he was secretary of the institute’s Komsomol committee. From 1952 to 1954, Tiazhel’nikov was deputy director of the department of propaganda and agitation of the Cheliabinsk oblast committee of the Komsomol. He was a graduate student in the department of Marxism-Leninism from 1954 to 1956 and a senior instructor from 1956 to 1961, while simultaneously serving as secretary of the party committee of the Cheliabinsk Pedagogical Institute. From 1961 to 1964 he was rector of the institute. In 1964, Tiazhel’nikov became secretary of the Cheliabinsk oblast committee of the CPSU. From 1968 to 1977 he was first secretary of the Central Committee of the Komsomol. Since 1977 Tiazhel’nikov has been head of a department of the Central Committee of the CPSU.
Tiazhel’nikov headed delegations of Komsomol and Soviet youth to the ninth and tenth World Festivals of Youth and Students, held in Sofia (1968) and Berlin (1973), respectively. He also headed delegations to several international conferences and meetings of progressive youth organizations.
Tiazhel’nikov is the author of works on the history of the party and the Komsomol and on the communist upbringing of youth. He headed the group of authors who collaborated on the book The Glorious Road of the Komsomol (vols. 1–2,1974).
A delegate to the Twenty-third through Twenty-fifth Congresses of the CPSU, Tiazhel’nikov was also a deputy to the seventh through ninth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He has been a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU since 1971. Tiazhel’nikov has been awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and various medals.
