Smith, T. (Thomas) Lynn

(1903–76) sociologist; born in Sanford, Colo. He was a professor at the University of Florida (1949–76) where he specialized in population studies, rural and urban sociology, and Latin American cultures and institutions. His more than 50 books and 200 articles include Sociology of Rural Life (1940, later revised), Fundamentals of Population Study (1960), and studies of Brazil (1946) and Colombia (1967).
