Smith, Reginald Heber

(1889–1966) lawyer; born in Fall River, Mass. Managing director of the Boston firm Hale & Dorr (1919–56), he was widely acclaimed for initiating the modern American system of legal aid for those who cannot afford lawyers. He wrote Justice and the Poor (1919) and Survey of the Legal Profession (1953). He received the American Bar Association's gold medal (1951).
