Above the Market

Above the Market

Describing an order to buy or sell a security at a price substantially lower (for a buy order) or higher (for a sell order) than the current market price. An above the market order is unlikely to be filled until the market price moves closer to the order's designated price. For example, one makes an above the market order when one makes a bid to buy a stock at $22 per share when the market price for a stock is $30 per share.
