a city under oblast jurisdiction and administrative center of Pavlograd Raion, Dnepropetrovsk Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. Situated on the Volch’ia River (Dnieper River basin). Railroad junction (Pavlograd I), with lines to Novomoskovsk, Lozovaia, Sinel’nikovo, and elsewhere. Population, 94,000 (1974).
The center of a coal region in the western part of the Donets Coal Basin, Pavlograd has a coal concentration (or washing) plant and plants that produce electric lighting accessories, foundry machinery, and machinery for the chemical industry. It also has a tannery, a garment factory, factories that produce furniture and process hemp, and a prefabricated-housing combine. Other industries include coal mining, the production of building materials, and food processing. Pavlograd has a machine-building technicum, a medical school, and a people’s museum of revolutionary history.
