Smith, Cloethiel Woodard

(1910–93) architect; born in Peoria, Ill. Trained in both architecture and city planning, she founded a Washington, D.C. firm bearing her name (1963), specializing in urban planning and renewal and new town residential communities; her work is characterized by small scale and attention to community activities and includes the Southwest Urban Renewal Area and Waterfront, Washington, D.C., and La Clede Town, St. Louis, Mo.
