sensory cortex

An area on the outer layer (cortex) of the CEREBRUM through the stimulation of which consciousness of sensation is mediated. The sensory cortex for pressure, pain, taste and temperature lies immediately behind the motor cortex on the side of each cerebral hemisphere, about half way back. The cortex for visual sensation is at the back, and that for sound is in the temporal lobes on either side.
