Sudekum, Albert

Born Jan. 25, 1871, in Wolfenbuttel; died February 1944. One of the leaders of the right wing of German social democracy, a revisionist. Journalist by profession.

From 1900 to 1918, Sudekum was a deputy to the Reichstag. During World War I he was a social chauvinist. Sudekum served as minister of finance of Prussia from November 1918 to March 1920, after which he took no part in politics. In a number of works V. I. Lenin stigmatized “Sudekumism,” noting that “the word ‘Sudekum’ has come to be used in a generic sense to denote a type of smug and unscrupulous opportunist and social chauvinist” (Poln. sobr. soch., 5th ed., vol. 26, p. 119).
