Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh

Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh

A professional organisation founded by physician Sir Robert Sibbald, and granted its Royal Charter in 1681. The founding fellows of the College were concerned with advancing medicine as a reputable science, and with alleviating the miseries of Edinburgh’s poor and needy. The College remains independent of control by government, and its mission follows the ideals of its founders to promote the highest standards in internal medicine wherever its fellows, collegiate members and members practise.
