patterned dystrophy of retinal pigment epithelium

patterned dystrophy of retinal pigment epithelium

A condition (OMIM:169150) characterised by a heterogeneous group of seemingly banal changes of the retinal pigment, with three main patterns: reticular (“fishnet-like”), macroreticular (“spider-shaped”), and butterfly-shaped pigment dystrophy of the fovea, with little effect on visual acuity.
Molecular pathology
Defects of PRPH2, which encodes peripherin 2, cause patterned dystrophy of retinal pigment epithelium.
