β-lipotropin

 [lip″o-tro´pin] a polypeptide synthesized by cells of the adenohypophysis which promotes fat mobilization and skin darkening by stimulation of melanocytes. It is the precursor molecule of β-endorphin and a melanocyte-stimulating hormone (β-MSH).
