senior house officer
senior house officer
An obsolete junior doctor post in the UK, which followed the pre-registration house officer year and precedes GP or specialty training. Under Moderising Medical Careers, the PRHO and SHO years have become Foundation Years 1 and 2.The tenure of each post was usually 6 months and some posts are linked in clinical rotations to give a broader clinical experience; doctors intending to remain in hospital practice must obtain a higher diploma from a Medical Royal College before progressing to registrar level.
