Razelm

Razelm

(also Razim), a group of lakes in Rumania along the Black Sea (south of the Danube delta). The northern group consists of freshwater lakes (Lake Razelm and Lake Goloviţa), and the southern group of salt lakes. The lakes are separated from the sea by a spit cut by the Portiţa Strait. Their total area is greater than 1,000 sq km; the area of Lake Razelm proper is about 500 sq km. Lake Razelm juts inland for 35 km. The water, which is shallow, is freshened by water from the Sfântu-Gheorghe arm of the Danube. There is fishing for sheatfish, pike perch, carp, and pike. Many waterfowl live along the lakes.
