A term of historic interest for calculating pensionable hours worked by junior doctors undergoing part-time training in the NHS, which were divided into Class-A and Class-B units of medical time (UMTs) for any work over and above their contracted (part-time) standard UMTs. UMTs between the contracted level and whole-time (e.g., 40 hours, for this purpose) were pensionable, both for contributions and benefit purposes. In 1992 a new system of out of hours pay, Additional Duty Hours (ADHs), was introduced to replace UMTs.
