patch cord[′pach ‚kȯrd] (electricity) A cord equipped with plugs at each end, used to connect two jacks on a patch board. patch cordA specific length of cable terminated at each end with a plug. Patch cords typically range from three to 50 feet, although shorter and longer lengths are also available. Any cable (telephone, audio, video, Ethernet, etc.) with connectors on both ends is a patch cord. See patch panel and pigtail.
