thrust reversal

thrust reversal

thrust reversalClamshell type thrust reverser. The method and means of reducing the landing run of an aircraft without excessive use of wheel brakes or any use of braking or tail parachutes. On piston and turboprop engines, it can be done by reversing the propeller pitch. In turbojet engines, it can be done by reversing the direction of the exhaust gas stream. In gas turbine engines, thrust reversal normally is accomplished by mechanical blockage, bucket-type doors (retractable ejector system), clamshell doors, etc.
