Tetraconcha

Tetraconcha

(also quatrefoil-plan church), a centralized church consisting of four semicircular apses arranged symmetrically around a central area that is usually crowned by a dome. Te-traconchae originated in early Christian architecture, the earliest known examples dating from the sixth century. They are especially typical of the sixth- and seventh-century architecture of Armenia, for example, the church at Zvartnots, and of Georgia.
