Rastrelli, Bartolomeo F. Rastrelli, Bartolomeo F. (1700–1771)Italian architect who settled in St. Petersburg, Russia, when his father, an architect and sculptor, was called there in 1715. His work in Russia includes the Andreas Church (1768), Kiev; renovation and extension to the Summer Palace, (1757), Peterhof, and the Strogonov Palace (1754), St. Petersburg; the Smolny Cathedral and Convent (1759), St, Petersburg; and the fourth Winter Palace (1762), now the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg, his last and finest work. Much of his interior work had been altered, but it is now being restored. |
