Trifolium pretense

(trĭ-fōl′ē-ŭm prĕ-tĕn′sē) [L., lit. “extended trefoil”] The scientific name for red clover, an herbal remedy containing phytoestrogens. Despite its estrogenic chemistry it is not an effective treatment for hot flashes occurring in menopause.
