Teterev

 

a river in Zhitomir and Kiev oblasts, Ukrainian SSR; a right tributary of the Dnieper. The Teterev is 365 km long and drains an area of 15,100 sq km. It originates on the Dnieper Upland, flows through the Poles’e Lowland, and empties into the Kiev Reservoir. It is fed mainly by snow. The mean flow rate 136 km from the mouth is 18.4 cu m per sec. The Teterev freezes between November and early January, and the ice breaks up between late February and early April. The main tributaries, the Guiva and the Zdvizh, enter from the right. The river is navigable in its lower course and is used for floating timber. The cities of Zhitomir, Korostyshev, and Radomyshl’ are located on the Teterev.
