Pravednikov, Andrei Nikodimovich
Born Nov. 16, 1923, in Moscow. Soviet chemist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1976). Member of the CPSU since 1963.
Pravednikov graduated from the M. V. Lomonosov Moscow Institute of Fine Chemical Technology in 1949. He joined the staff of the L. Ia. Karpov Physical Chemistry Institute in 1949 and became head of the institute’s department of polymer synthesis in 1975. While continuing his work at the Karpov Institute, Pravednikov in 1972 was named head of the polymer subdepartment of the Lomonosov Institute.
Pravednikov’s principal works deal with the chemistry of polymers. He has developed new methods for synthesizing poly-heteroarylenes, which serve as the basis for polymeric materials that combine high thermal stability with good mechanical properties and that are suitable for the production of large articles. Pravednikov has produced films with high transparency in various spectral regions.
