Sredna Gora

 

mountains in Bulgaria between the Trans-Balkan basins in the north and the upper Thracian Plain in the south. The Sredna Gora are 285 km long and have elevations reaching 1,604 m (Mount Bogdan). They are composed of crystalline rocks, sandstones, and limestones. The mountains have flat summits. The southern slopes are relatively gentle, and the northern slopes are steep. There are deposits of copper ore at Panagyurishte. Mineral springs are common, for example, at the balneological resorts of Khisaria, Pavel-Banya, and Stara Zagora. Oak and beech forests grow on the mountain slopes.
